I am happy to reveal the cover of my next book, The Hawk of the Castle (Candlewick Press, April 11, 2017). Bagram Ibatoulline’s work is beautifully detailed and just amazing!
As some of you may know, my father was a falconer so I was fortunate to learn about falconry first-hand. This book has a special place in my heart.
For the creators of books, the weeks before reviews begin coming in are nerve-wracking. My “baby” was placed in the hands of strangers in hopes they would love it and shout it to the castle rooftops.
Kirkus Reviews has reviewed The Hawk of the Castle and (hooray!) they had lovely things to say about it like, “A trained hawk serves as fierce centerpiece to broad, sweeping views of castle and countryside in this rhapsodic tribute to the craft of falconry.” and “An idyllic picture of an ancient practice.” I am crossing my fingers for more good reviews and truly hope this book finds its way into the hands and minds of curious children (and adults) everywhere.
